A delegação não funciona rapidamente com a subvisualização

Editar: alguém sugeriu que esta era uma duplicata de outra pergunta. Não é que implementei:
- (NSInteger) tableView: (UITableView *) tableView numberOfRowsInSection: (NSInteger) seção // (em breve, é claro).
Em um ViewController, crio programaticamente uma tableView e a adiciono como uma subvisualização. Eu tenho uma classe chamada DataSource que adota UITableViewDelegate e UITableViewDataSource por meio de duas extensões.
Estou seguindo um exemplo dado aqui
Estou recebendo um erro:
ViewController tableView: numberOfRowsInSection:]: seletor não reconhecido enviado para a instância 0x7f88cc406ac0 '
0x7f88cc406ac0 é o endereço do ViewController que o contém.
Mesmo se eu fizer o ViewController que contém adotar UITableViewDelegate por meio de uma extensão e então chamar a implementação de DataSource de tableView: numberOfRowsInSection, ainda vejo o erro.
Ideias?
